Period delay service

Book an appointment to access the period delay service
If you need to delay your period for a big event or holiday, our service can help.

How the service works

  • Consultation: Having booked your consultation, and completed an online form, you will have a consultation with our friendly pharmacist.
  • Assessment: A pharmacist will review your answers to ensure the medication is suitable for you and will not be taken as a form of contraception. (If you do want contraception our pharmacist can offer it to you as part of the contraception service)
  • Medication: If suitable, a supply of Norethisterone will be issued to you at our pharmacy.
  • Medication: Norethisterone is a progestogen that mimics the hormone progesterone, which helps prevent the uterine lining from shedding and postponing your period.

Important considerations

  • Timing: The medication must be taken a few days before your period is due, and you can continue it for up to 14 days (or 20 days in some cases) to delay your period for a special event or holiday.
  • Side effects: Some common side effects include headaches, nausea, and bloating, though they are not experienced by everyone.
  • Contraception: Norethisterone is not a contraceptive and other forms of protection, such as condoms, should be used if needed.
  • Frequency: This service is designed for occasional use and is not recommended for frequent use due to potential effects on your menstrual cycle.
