Simple reassuring advice to help you take your treatment safely
How to take Lagevrio
- Start treatment as soon as you can, ideally within 5 days of your symptoms starting (sometimes up to 7 days if advised by a clinician)
- Keep taking Lagevrio until you finish the course, even if you start to feel better. This helps the treatment work as effectively as possible.
Pregnancy, contraception and breastfeeding
- If you could become pregnant, use barrier method contraception during treatment and for 4 days after your last dose
- If you find out you were pregnant while taking Lagevrio, please contact your prescriber. They may ask you to report this to the UK antiviral pregnancy register.

Most people tolerate Lagevrio well. Some may experience:
These are usually mild and short‑lived.

Unfortunately we will not be able to answer queries from patients who were prescribed Paxlovid elsewhere.

When to get help
If you have any concerns about side effects, your symptoms, or how to take your medication, contact your pharmacy or phone NHS 111.
Get urgent medical help (call 999 or attend A&E) if you:
- Have difficulty breathing or shortness of breath at rest. If you have a pulse oximeter, use it, and get help if it reads below 94.
- Feel persistent chest pain or pressure
- Are confused or hard to wake
- Notice a bluish colour in your lips or face
